The Changing Status of Women in Asian Societies

Women in South Asian countries are witnessing changes through development initiatives. Economic, social, and political developments in Asia have brought with them profound changes in the status of women. In general, women’s conditions have improved with economic development and social and political change that favors equality and individual rights. At the same time, cultural traditions continue to have a strong influence on the status of women in the region.

Since the inception of SAARC Chamber Women Entrepreneurs Council (SCWEC) a number of forums, round tables and other programs have been held to inform and promote women's economic advancement Women leaders from the economic sector come together under the common vision of dramatically expanding women’s economic opportunities through exchanges of working solutions and creative strategies forged by women influencers from South Asia. The belief of these networks is “Expand your network of professional women.”

After nearly two decades of working in a decision making level as an entrepreneur and with my active involvement with organizations focused on women’s issues, it has been my strong belief that women led organizations can be a catalyst in strengthening women's economic role. Promoting Social Entrepreneurship has witnessed multiple effects. This is the power of working together as a unified force. We need to advocate the value of “The Power of Economic Empowerment!” But time and again we need to review our efforts in the struggle for equality and development …… How is gender defined in the developing world? “ The Driving Change of today and tomorrow”!
